How to Create Partition on Windows XP | Computer Tips and Tricks

Windows provide a program to create and manage disk partition on your computer, the application called "Disk Management". In this computer tips and tricks, We will try to create disk partition using this application, but before we do it, I recommend you to create a back up files. It important to do as a preventive action if there is an error on our computer later.


This tutorial using Windows XP and the hard drive capacity is 320 GB, for Windows 7 users, this tutorial might be can be applied because basically, between Windows XP and Windows 7 is not much different. Ok, let's start our tutorial.

First, click on "Start" and select "Control Panel", see the image below.

The next step is select "Administrative Tools" menu, the icon as shown by the picture below.

Next, choose the "Computer Management" menu, the icon as shown by the picture below.

After that, the Computer Management window will appear, then you choose "Disk Management" menu. Look at the picture below.

Then, choose the partition that you want to create on the hard drive, right click and select "New Logical Drive". For explanation, look at the picture below.

You'll be asked to create a new partition, then click "Next". In the "Select Partition Type" window, you'll be asked to create Logical Drive Partition, then select "Next". In the next step, you will be asked to manage the size of partition that will be created, you can use the arrow, left to decrease and right to increase. If you finish to manage the partition size, then click OK. Look at the picture below.

In the next window, i.e "New Simple Volume Wizard", choose the "Assign the following drive letter" to select the drive to store the hard drive partition, and then click "Next". See the picture below.

Next you'll be asked to choose the system disk used, for example NTFS. You also have to fill the volume label. After that, click "Finish" and now you have new partition on your hard drive. Good luck.
